ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) measures how much revenue you earn for every dollar spent on advertising. A ROAS of 4x means you earned $4 for every $1 spent. Unlike ROI, ROAS uses revenue (not profit) as the numerator — it does not account for product costs.
ROAS = Revenue Generated / Ad Spend
A $1,000 Facebook campaign that generates $5,000 in sales has a ROAS of 5x (or 500%).
Break-even ROAS is the minimum ROAS needed to cover your costs. Formula: Break-Even ROAS = 1 / Gross Margin. If your gross margin is 40%, your break-even ROAS is 1/0.40 = 2.5x. Any ROAS above 2.5x means you're profitable; below means you're losing money on every ad dollar.
